Lucy Cook, Newspaper Sports Editor, Co-Director of Media Production

Hello, my name is Lucy, and I’m the Sports Editor of the Tom Tom and the Co-Director for Media Production. I’m a manager for both football, boys’ basketball and Jv baseball teams. In my free time, I like to listen to music, dancing, and watch shows, such as Falling Into Your Smile and Bad Buddy. I also raise 4 chickens in my backyard.

Trick or treat. Robney Barnett, dressed as a zombie, steps into his at the House of Horror on Logan Drive. After starting the haunted house, Halloween has never been the same for the Mulkey and Barrett families. “It was such a quiet neighborhood, maybe some people across the street occasionally. [Now], we have people from up the street, down the street, everywhere they come.” Kelly Mulkey said.

Just keep running. It takes a lot of dedication and effort to succeed in cross country, and for the team’s last meet, the athletes ran 5,000 meters (3.11 miles). Placing 30 out of 88 is freshman Hannah Kinsey. “In high school you run like a ton more, more seriously. We train in the summer, we have a lot of meets, we travel farther, and the distance [we run] is longer,” Kinsey said.

At bat. As she steps on the mound, senior Hayley deMontel is waiting for the perfect time to swing at the ball. With the team’s effort they were able to beat Westside 13-3 on Sept. 4. “Coaches are always teaching me new drills and how I can improve on and off the field, but I believe if you aren’t having fun there’s no point,” deMontel said.

No phones. Starting this school year, Bellevue Public Schools is enforcing a phone policy which doesn’t allow students to be on their phones, or any non-district device, during class. Sophomore Ciaya Smith used to listen to music on her phone but doesn’t like listening to music on the iPad. “I listen to music because it helps me learn, and an iPad doesn’t really do that, especially with these crappy headphones we have,” Smith said.

Wrap it up. Bellevue East Athletic Trainer Richard Nelson wraps sophomore Maddie Walter on May 8 after healing from a broken finger. “Rick has helped me a lot with coping with not being able to play volleyball. He helped me tape my finger. Rick helps me when I have pain, playing soccer and volleyball. He is a good trainer,” Walter said.
