The 2026 survival horror thriller, “Send Help”, follows an unrespected and overworked employee and her boss who get stranded on an island. Rachel McAdams plays the unhinged Linda Liddle and Dylan O’Brien plays the self centered boss, Bradley Preston. It’s a very intriguing plot that draws some similarities to “Cast Away” and “Lord of the Flies,” but “Send Help” flips the trope on itself with its smart and clever story. Many people online compared
“Send Help” to “Misery” mixed with “Cast Away.” I try not to look at it like that but as its own original concept so it doesn’t ruin the overall enjoyment of seeing a new film. I enjoyed “Send Help,” mainly because it was directed by Sam Raimi. He’s most famous for his work in the “Spider-Man” franchise and “Doctor Strange” film, but horror fans like me mostly know him for his past work in various horror projects such as the “Evil Dead” franchise, “Crawl,” and “Drag Me to Hell.” In my opinion, Raimi is a fantastic director and he didn’t disappoint with Send Help. Even though movies that mostly take place in one particular setting can sometimes be boring, Send Help still managed to keep me entertained and intrigued with its secluded island setting. Send Help says a lot about misogyny from men and empowers viewers to embrace and discuss their own, often buried anger. The film strongly aims for a survival and revenge narrative where our main protagonist’s suppressed rage soon bubbles out into active defiance. Another reason why I truly love Send Help is because it shows what you should and should not do if you crash land and end up on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean. “Send Help” acts like a fun educational but entertaining watch.
However, one thing that I think is a flaw of “Send Help” is how abrupt the ending is. The ending felt rushed, they don’t really show how the antagonist meets their demise, and how the protagonist gets to where they are at the end of the film. But regardless of that, “Send Help” is a great film to watch to start off the new year and gives me hope for the other upcoming movies in 2026. “Send Help” not only entertains you, but also gives you survival tips. In the end credits of the film there’s illustrations and step by step techniques on how to gather water, food, and make signal fires. An easy nine out of ten for me, it’s a film that made me openly say out loud “Good for her.”
