This year, Bellevue East marching band has been working hard and participating in an abundance of competitions. Students and teachers alike work to make this season great and do their best.
Though it is a very time consuming activity, many band students find that they end up enjoying it. They work together to achieve goals and make a great season, even through the vigorous practices. Junior Liliahna Lusk, who is one of the band’s three drum majors, says the season has been enjoyable.
“Marching band is very intense and tiring but in my opinion it’s definitely worth it,” Lusk said.
Marching band requires a lot of work for everyone involved, sometimes ten hours a week outside of school. However, in the process the band members make sure to enjoy it, even while getting up early most days and doing work. Throughout this season they have all worked to give it their best and make relationships with those around them.
“It’s very fun and enjoyable and you can get the crowd to move along with you,” sophomore Ava Carter said.
The marching band’s theme this year is ‘As Seen On’, and both students and the audience seem to really appreciate it. The theme connects to movies and shows that audiences often recognize and love. The thing that makes this band season so enjoyable is the hard work that everyone has put in.
“This season has been so much fun,” band director Kaitlyn Keck said. “The band has shown a lot of growth, and Mr. Krug and I are so proud of the band.”
The band directors have worked hard to instruct and help students in marching band. This has helped band students do well and be successful, and they have relationships that they get to build and create throughout the season.
“We’ve been really successful this season so far, it’s been a lot of fun,” Lusk said. “The relationships that I make with people, and some of the people I meet throughout band and other bands too.”
The commitment to this season has helped them improve from last year, their dedication allowing them to be successful at competitions. At Bands of America Iowa, they competed against 23 of the best bands in six different states and placed No 8. They placed No. 5 at the NSBA state band competition, where they also received the award for best color guard.
“This season is going well because of the hard work and dedication of the band students,” Keck said.
The band members’ dedication and positive attitudes have helped them be successful for the duration of the marching band season. As well as this, the band directors have put in immense work to help students throughout this journey.
