“Jurassic World Rebirth” (2025) is the newest movie in the Jurassic franchise, meant to recapture the magic of the original movies, but in the end, they failed. The movie had an amazing cast, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, all of whom have won multiple acting awards, and performed well in this movie. If you’re looking to watch this movie for the cast, I would highly recommend it, but if you’re looking for a new awesome movie about dinosaurs or an amazing plot, “Jurassic World Rebirth” falls short of that.
“Jurassic World Rebirth” follows Zora Bennet (played by Scarlett Johansson), a resilient mercenary for hire who’s on a mission to gather dinosaur DNA that could unearth a revolutionary life-saving medicine. While doing so, she finds herself a part of a diverse crew of unlikely allies that band together, including a paleontologist, mercenary, businessman, and logistician. Each of them is driven by their own agenda, but united under a single goal: find the dinosaurs. The prehistoric monsters, no longer able to roam the Earth and unable to survive current climates, are fading fast in the modern world. So, the team must travel across the Atlantic Ocean to the equator, where the climate is still similar to the way it was millions of years ago. On an isolated island, genetically modified dinosaurs wander free, deemed too dangerous for humanity.
Throughout the film, characters are met with challenges, moral dilemmas, betrayal, and danger. Unfortunately, these just fall into a predictable pattern, and the movie plays out exactly as you would expect, save maybe a jumpscare.
Unlike most of the franchise, this movie has a lot more to do with the characters than dinosaurs, causing a lot of controversy because of how unimportant the dinosaurs were. When I walked into the movie theater, I anticipated a thrilling movie about terrifying dinosaurs that would have me on the edge of my seat the entire time, and that is not what I was met with. Instead, it was about human characters and their interpersonal relationships and drama, the visuals and dinosaurs just a backdrop throughout.
Despite the overall predictable and boring plot, the actors did a great job with it. Jonathan Bailey, who played Dr. Henry Loomis, did an exceptional job with his costars, bringing a witty and entertaining performance to the rather routine movie. Along with him were Ali and Johansson, who played their roles well and helped bring characters throughout the movie that could seem flat to being more exciting. As well as this, the movie had amazing visuals; the CGI looked beautiful and brought the dinosaurs to life.
Overall, I’d rate this movie 2/5 stars. If you were going to watch it for the acting, cast, or visuals, I think this is a great movie. However, if you want to watch it for powerful dinosaurs and a captivating plot, I do not recommend “Jurassic World Rebirth” at all.
