Before having a solo career, Jisoo originally debuted under YG Entertainment, part of the K-Pop girl group Blackpink. Along with her music career, she is also global ambassador for Dior, Cartier, and Dyson, and recently in 2024, became the face for ALO Yoga. Jisoo is also an actress, acting in the Disney+ drama “SnowDrop” and more recently in the Prime Video K-Drama “Newtopia”.
AMORAGE includes a total of four songs on the album. Starting with the title track “Earthquake” and ending with “Hugs & Kisses”. The track list includes two full english songs, “Your Love” and “Hugs & Kisses”. Songs Jisoo sings usually have korean in it The songs, like the album title suggest, explains the different feelings and stages you experience when you are in love. Starting with before the relationship – and feeling head over heels in love – to being completely over their ex.
The title track, “Earthquake”, is about love and how she feels like she is about to explode with feelings. The music has many exciting parts, like the end of the pre-chorus when it goes “‘bout to blow, ‘bout to blow.” In this part, all you can hear are the lyrics, which helps emphasize the chorus even more. It slows down again in the chorus with the “da da da ta”, when it blends right into the next part of the song. The bridge helps show how much she is in love. According to Genius, the english translation is “I’m down deep, and I love it even if I don’t say it, yeah, i’m feelin’ you one touch, baby, I fall, I want you to lock me in your eyes all of the time.” And leads into a dance break and final chorus with a clock ticking sound. The song alone shows the feelings of being drunk in love and the video just emphasizes that with more visual aspects.
The next song on the album is “Your Love”.Your love is one of two full english tracks on Amorage, It is also a slower song. It talks about how love is hard to explain and compares how it makes her feel inside. Jisoo compares love to many things like “a song I used to know” and the feeling of having “only green lights driving home”. Both of those experiences make you feel good and happy. She also talks about how they will be young forever and how the world moves slowly. It shows how love makes a single moment last as long as she wants and that she can continue feeling that way forever. The slow part of the song helps you focus more on the lyrics of the song and its meaning. It helps you relax and feel like the moment will last forever.
After “Your love”, the next song on the album is “Tears”. “Tears” is a song about the start of the breakup stages when you feel empty inside. In the song, Jisoo found out she was cheated on at a party. Crying but trying to show how you are still strong without them. When listening to the song, The bass continues throughout the whole song with adding drums at the beginning of the chorus. When it gets to the bridge, the beat slows down with a radio sounding vocal and then for the final chorus, it goes back into clear sounding audio. The audio during the bridge replicates underwater drowning in tears. They use more than just the lyrics to help tell the story. Ending the song with lyrics saying, “ For the last time, I’ll shed tears for you, I’ll leave it here with everything we had.” Finding that she does not need her ex anymore.
The album ends with the song called “Hugs & kisses” about how they are fully over her ex and that they do not believe their lies anymore. How they feel free to be themself again and do not need anyone. “Don’t need your hugs and kisses hugs and kisses will not make a difference ‘cause you did me dirty, so malicious.” She knows that her ex misses her and wants her back but she is not falling for any of it. There are hints of electric beats in the chorus showing how free she feels and is partying after the breakup and healed from the toxic relationship.
Throughout the album it talks about love in different ways. From being blinded by love to healing from the past relationship that she was in that she realized she is not in love anymore. I love how Jisoo was able to simplify the feelings into four separate songs. I do wish that the album had more songs. I rate the album an overall 3.5 out of 5 stars.
