Enjoy this review, ya filthy animal! The holidays are all about spending time with family. In this movie, “Home Alone,” this is not the case for Kevin McCallister. He learns the importance of appreciating what you have, not taking things for granted, and how to outsmart burglars, all while having a little fun along the way.
Home Alone is a funny and classic Christmas movie starring Macaulay Culkin, otherwise known for roles on My Girl, Richie Rich, and more. Home Alone is about a young boy who is ungrateful for his family before they go on a big trip for Christmas, and he wishes they would just disappear. Suddenly he wakes up “Home Alone” the next day while his family is in a whole separate country because they mistakenly left him home. This movie goes through the ups and downs of being a kid that has to fend for himself at home, while his family is desperately trying to get back home to him.
From the very beginning, laughs were already being created. A “police officer” is in the McCallisters’ house trying to find the homeowner to warn them about the holiday burglaries that might happen while going out of town. It is definitely not easy for him to find the homeowner, as the house is filled with the whole family, meaning a lot of kids. After a lot of questioning he finally finds the owner. I found that very amusing because it seemed like the house was run by a bunch of kids. The scene when Kevin got scared of the old man and ran out the store was shocking. He ran out with a toothbrush still in his hand while the worker was chasing him. The run back home was very eventful, including a little ice skating!
Once Kevin let it sink in that he was home alone, he had a whole party. He watched whatever he wanted, ate whatever he wanted, and did anything he wanted. When I saw him jumping on his parents bed without a care in the world it reminded me of something my younger sister would definitely do. I found all the funny traps Kevin set up in his house to stop the burglars very smart. Watching them slip and slide on ice, get hit in the head, and step on ornaments, it changed my perspective on younger kids. They are actually pretty clever and smart when they want to.
I would 100% recommend this movie to anyone that wants a fun and humorous holiday movie to watch. It is a really great family movie that teaches a lesson that you should be grateful for what you have because once it is gone you will realize its importance. I would rate this movie 4.5 stars out of 5 overall. Hopefully you enjoy this movie just as much as I did.
