Seven players were chosen for this exclusive game, either by chance or choice. All of them stranded on a secluded island where they must prove themselves to be the best. One last chance to make their name known, and win the multimillion dollar prize.
The “Grandest Game” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is the start of a new series continuing the best seller novel sequence, “The Inheritance Games,” A new book that has captured reader’s attention, with its jaw dropping twists and mystery thriller content. A book that constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting for more, mixing in both new and old characters. I really enjoyed “The Grandest Game” because of the suspense and amazing plot.
There is a new game, and all they need to have in order to play is a ticket. Seven lucky players embark on a journey to a secluded island for the chance to win a multimillion dollar prize, but only the best can win. All of different backgrounds and motivations to win, they compete to see if they can be the one to get this final chance. Family ties present themselves when Grayson Hawthorne and his two sisters, Savannah and GiGi, are split up for this challenge. Brady and Knox are new characters that are introduced and bring in a new layer of emotion, helping to humanize the characters and help readers relate to their insecurities. Players unite to reach the dock and escape the puzzles before dawn. When the past catches up and secrets pile up, not everything can stay buried forever.
This book has a great plot and endless turns that will keep you wanting for more. A great point for readers to enjoy is the plot and the pace at which the story moves. One example that demonstrates the amazing plot and pace is the escape rooms, and how each one is slightly different and you are still able to understand how they solve and make their way through all of these thrilling challenges. Even small interactions will have exciting details like finding out about Libby being pregnant. These thrilling details though could be overlooked, make this story so much better and eye catching. Each challenge lasts a few chapters, allowing you to enjoy the games and also get a chance to move quickly.
I also enjoy how this book mentions plot in previous books by Barnes, but can still be read as a stand alone. Throughout the book readers get small hints at upcoming events and past plot, but it is still a good read without prior knowledge of the characters and their stories. Things like Grayson’s past with Rohan and their rivalry are mentioned but do not make you need to read the previous series. This book grows relationships and gives readers entertaining scenes filled with drama. Characters like Odette bring in a new air of mystery and information about Tobias Hawthorne, the man who started it all. As well as keeping some previous characters, readers also get new people and plot to start and continue this amazing story. Overall, I rate this book a 9/10 and would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
